Job Description


JOSA, a Jordanian organization that supports and promote Open Source technologies, is looking for a passionate and committed individual to join our team as a Community Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extremely passionate about JOSA’s values and mission.
  • At least one year experience in the ICT sector.
  • Previous experience in management of tech communities, student clubs, tech organizations, or similar.
  • Bachelor’s degree or currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
  • Membership in JOSA is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and English.
  • Understanding of Open Source principles, community dynamics, and volunteer engagement.
  • Sociable and comfortable interacting with diverse groups of people and able to foster inclusive and welcoming environments.

 

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Members’ and Community Activities: Manage and develop members’ events and activities, including field trips, social gatherings, and other recreational events, and community-related activities, such as meetups, annual Iftars, etc.
  • Organize, participate in and oversee JOSA's sub-communities and support their activities like study groups, team projects, and collective work.
  • Universities and Schools: Help in organizing learning and community-building activities in universities and schools.
  • Cooperation: Act as a liaison between JOSA and other like-minded communities, inside and outside Jordan, including student clubs and other related initiatives (like Wikimedia, Creative Commons, OpenStreetMap, etc.).
  • JOSA Members: Administer JOSA membership to guarantee strong and engaged member base. Maintain constant and good communication with members, assist current and prospective members, encourage and monitor members' contributions and volunteering, and develop plans for membership perks/benefits.
  • Organize, support and/or lead events, activities, and training sessions targeting the community.
  • Represent and promote JOSA in community spaces and tech events, and ensure meaningful collaboration and visibility.
  • Identify, support, and showcase local Open Source projects.
  • Ensure that JOSA’s projects and activities operate consistently to the benefit of JOSA’s community.
  • Work closely with, and support, other members of the Community and Communications Team and other JOSA's team members to maximize the impact of local open technologies and communities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REPORTING

The Community Officer reports to the Executive Director.
