Job Description
JOSA, a Jordanian organisation dedicated to promoting and developing open-source technology for social good, seeks a highly committed and values-driven individual to join our team as a Lead Digital Security Technologist.
In this role, you will guide JOSA’s digital security work, providing direct support to beneficiaries, developing educational and technical materials, contributing to open-source projects, and advocating for secure digital practices and privacy enhancing open source tools. You’ll lead technical and strategic initiatives to build safer digital ecosystems for communities that need it most, all grounded in JOSA’s open, collaborative, and privacy-centered approach.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep alignment with JOSA’s mission of open-source technology for social good and preserving online privacy.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, or equivalent field /or equivalent experience.
- At least 4–5 years of experience in digital security practice, preferably in one or more of these fields:
- IT Security Auditing and Risk Assessment
- Threat Management / Digital forensics and incident response (DFIR)
- Security Operations
- Deep knowledge of cybersecurity open source tools, especially blue team tools.
- Previous published technical papers, research or material highly preferred.
- Understanding of cybersecurity threats and practices in relation to open source software preferred.
- Excellent communication in Arabic and English and interpersonal skills.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage the digital security team, defining strategic goals, mentoring staff, and overseeing delivery of digital security projects.
- Education and Advocacy: Oversee and contribute to the development of digital-security educational material, perform workshops and training sessions on digital security practices and tools, promote the use and development of open source privacy-enhancing tools.
- Digital Security Support: Conduct and coordinate IT audits and risk assessments for JOSA's beneficiaries, supporting partners in identifying and mitigating cybersecurity risks.
- Threat Detection and Response: Drive JOSA’s initiatives in threat detection and cyber threat intelligence (including information sharing with partners) as well as digital forensics and incident response activities.
- Research: Advance JOSA's research efforts in areas such as vulnerability discovery, malware analysis, and emerging threats. Collaborate on socio-technical research and contribute to the analysis of cyber policies and their societal impact.
- Secure Open Source Software: Partner with open source initiatives and projects to strengthen their security posture and mitigate threats. Support the development and enhancement of open source cybersecurity tools.
